Q
I just upgraded to Windows 7 and the LocoBuffer-USB driver
isn't working.
A
Windows 7 will enter the LocoBuffer-USB into the device
table without a driver. To install the correct driver You
must 'Upgrade' the entry. If you do not have a 2010 or later
disk you can download the drivers from our web site.
http://www.rr-cirkits.com/locobuffer-usb/drivers.zip
Unzip it and it should create a 'Drivers' folder.
Optionally you can copy the contents of that folder to a CD.
The CD should then have several folders on it. (IMAC, pc
drivers, etc.)

    1. Double click on 'Computer' and select 'System
Properties' in the top bar.
    2. Click on 'Device Manager' in the left pane.
    3. If there is a plus sign next to 'Ports', you should
see the LocoBuffer-USB and what com port it's assigned to.
    4. If it is not there, look under 'Other devices'. If it
is there, then Windows 7 has already entered it, but it must
be upgraded.
    5. Double click on 'LocoBuffer-USB
    6. Select the 'Driver' tab.
    7. Click on 'Update Driver'
    8. Choose 'Browse my computer for driver software'.
    9. Browse to either the CD or the 'drivers' folder.
    10. At the 'Windows Security' pop-up select 'Install
this driver software anyway'.
    11. When it has finished click on 'Close'.
    12. A 'LocoBuffer-USB entry should have appeared under
'Universal Serial Bus controllers'.
    13. Close the properties tab.
    14. Again double click on 'LocoBuffer-USB' under 'Other
devices'
    16. Select the 'Driver' tab.
    17. Click once more on 'Update Driver'.
    18. Again choose 'Browse my computer for driver software'.
    19. Click next. (it will use the same file location as
before)
    20. At the 'Windows Security' pop-up select 'Install
this driver software anyway'.
    21. When it has finished click on 'Close'.

Once it has installed the second driver the 'Other devices'
entry should disappear and be replaced by 'Ports (COM &
LPT)'. Check there to see what Com port was chosen and use
it in your software preferences.
